Service Learning Courses
The Service-Learning component of our courses provides a strong foundation for students looking to pursue and foster an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives through reflection and reflexivity. The interdisciplinary nature of Pathways is the bridge to cross generational impact through the development of cultural proficiency.

Bridge Service + Learning
Service-learning is the key to building capacity for our program. The two components include: (1) university course work in tandem with (2) tutoring at partner schools equips you with skills to be an effective tutor and will guide you on forming reciprocal relationships with students and teachers.
Experiential Learning Pedagogy
Service-learning is an experiential learning pedagogy that moves students beyond the classroom to take ownership of their learning. Students actively develop transferable skills, reflect on the experience, and engage in their community. Students develop cultural competence through coursework and experience.
Spring 2023 Class Schedule
Meets Mondays & Wednesdays, 12PM-1:15PM
Instructor: Nadia Rohlinger, M.A.
- GE Fulfillment - Foundations Social/Behavioral Science.
- Part of the Cutural Proficiency Minor.
- Limited to students with a minimum of 2.0 GPA.
- Section has a zero-cost course materials (ZCCM) designation and exclusively uses digital course materials that are free of charge.
Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2PM-3:15PM
Instructor: Cynthia Park, Ph.D.
- This course requires 6 hours of tutoring per week in partnership with school sites.
- This course counts as early fieldwork experience (EFE) for the SDSU credential program.
- Part of the Cutural Proficiency Minor.
- Enrollment in this section entails participation in experiential learning and/or internship. These experiences can occur on-campus or off-campus. Additional requirements may apply.
Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays 4PM-6:50PM
Instructor: Kyra Freeburg, M.S.
- This course requires 4 hours of tutoring per week in partnership with school sites.
- This course counts as early fieldwork experience (EFE) for the SDSU credential program.
- Distance Education course. All class meetings and activities take place synchronously online.
- Enrollment in this section entails participation in experiential learning off-campus.
Meets only in the fall.
